Catholic Culture in the News

First we had Sister Deirdre Byrne, a retired U.S. Army medical doctor, and now a religious nun (and still a practicing doctor) with the Little Workers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary give a speech that many people are still talking about.  Her famous line during that speech was: “I’m not just pro-life, I’m pro-eternal life. When did that happen last?

It was 1939 and Marian Anderson was invited by Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt to sing at the “Evening of American Music” for a state visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of England. She chose Schubert’s version of Ave Maria. (See video below for Marian Anderson’s rendition of Ave Maria.)

 

When was the last time Catholic culture was in the news like this? I think our Mother is rejoicing.
